Description

Sheep Walker was a co-op puzzle platformer developed in Unreal Engine 5 for the Ubisoft Game Lab competition #CUBI24. The theme that year was Dreams and we were required to have an AI component, online multiplayer, something that changes between sessions and some type of accessibility option.

It was developed from January 2024 to April 2024.

My Role

My Role was the Systems/Technical Designer. I was responsible developing the core player abilities, the major one being the shrinking and growing mechanic you can see in this trailer.

What I Did

I created the systems by finding ways to do them online, when I had a very bare bones version, I'd break them apart to understand what each node was doing. Then with that I'd do things like reorganize, make macros and functions, and make the code as efficient, updating as needed each sprint for any new issues that may have popped up during the time.

What I Learned

I learned a lot about Unreal Engine 5's quirks and have a much greater understanding of things like it's Niagara system, modelling in engine,  and working with its node functions. I also learned a lot about properly optimizing my mechanics and knowing when do more than just the bare minimum for a sprint review.
